Vrchlice reservoir floating system presented to the Czech audience

Dr. Petr Porcal (Biology Centre CAS), was interviewed by Czech Television’s South Bohemian branch. The interview showcase FERRO's testing site - Vrchlice Reservoir near Kutná Hora, Czech Republic.

This solar-powered pump is located at one of FERRO’s demonstration sites, the Vrchlice Reservoir in Central Bohemia, Czech Republic. The reservoir serves as a source of drinking water, supports flow maintenance, flood protection, hydropower, and local irrigation.

During the discussion, Dr. Porcal recognises phosphorus as a long-standing problem in reservoirs, thus stressing the need for FERRO’s outputs and innovative technologies as feasible and practical solutions. The interview demonstrates how FERRO’s equipment pumps water from the lake bottom and filters it using a simple iron-based device. The extracted water is then treated via sorption material and converted into a natural fertiliser.

The restoration goals for the Vrchlice Reservoir are to reduce internal phosphorus loading and ensure drinking water quality while promoting resource recovery. You can view and read more about FERRO’s demonstration sites here.
