Between 7 and 9 June 2027, Lahti, Finland, will welcome the Lahti Lakes symposium for its fourth edition. Organised by one of FERRO’s project partners - the University of Helsinki, alongside the Lake Vesijärvi Foundation, the SIL working group on Lake Restoration, and the Ecosystems Workstream of the World Water Quality Alliance- the conference will bring together lake scientists and practitioners for three days of discussions and knowledge exchange. In 2027, FERRO and sister projects EuroLakes, ProCleanLakes and FutureLakes are joining the organisation of the symposium, together with a new co-host - EU Mission Lakes. 

The Lahti Lakes symposium has been an important part of the discussion and knowledge exchange on lake restoration throughout the years. It has brought many achievements to lake restoration literature, including a special issue in Hydrobiologia - a product of the 2018 edition; an award-winning publication ‘Sustainable lake restoration: from challenges to solutions,’ achieved following the 2021 edition; and the STOTEN PAPER ‘Toward sustainable lake restoration’, which was a product of the 2024 edition. The last edition of the symposium was held in June 2024, and coincided with the start of the FERRO project. During which the whole FERRO consortium participated and had the opportunity to engage with the international lake restoration community, share emerging project concepts, and exchange insights with leading experts in the field. In the 2027 edition, Lahti Lakes will showcase recent advancements in sustainable lake restoration by inviting discussions on numerous topics, including cost-effective strategies for lake restoration, broader implications of restoration through the lens of circularity, the role of limnological monitoring and assessment and socio-economic considerations in lake restoration. Alongside on-site participation, the symposium has introduced online attendance. You can use this survey to voice your preference for attending the symposium (on-site/online).
