FERRO at the Vesijärvi Foundation Research Seminars
FERRO was presented at the Vesijärvi Foundation research seminars, an ongoing series of gatherings aimed at promoting dialogue and knowledge exchange on freshwater research and lake restoration. The first seminar was held online on 9 April 2025, where Olga Tammeorg (University of Helsinki) provided an overview of the FERRO project, highlighting the activities of WP9 and discussing perspectives for the restoration of Lake Vesijärvi. The session was attended by around 30 participants, fostering interaction with researchers and stakeholders interested in sustainable management of the lake.
The series continued with an in-person seminar in Lahti, Finland, on 19 November 2025. Olga Tammeorg was again the FERRO representative, where showed “Updates of the FERRO project: importance of empirical research and restoration insights for Vähäselkä” (FERRO-hankkeen kuulumisia: empiirisen tutkimuksen merkitys ja Vähäselän kunnostuksen näkymät), sharing preliminary results from one of the study sites under Work Package 9. The presentation emphasised the role of empirical research in informing restoration strategies and offered insights into ongoing interventions and monitoring efforts at Vähäselkä.
Together, these seminars provided valuable opportunities to showcase FERRO’s work, engage with the regional research community, and support the exchange of knowledge and best practices for lake restoration and sustainable freshwater management.
