FERRO showcases Demonstration Sites across Europe

FERRO has launched a new dedicated section on its website to present the project’s demonstration sites. These sites play a central role in testing and showcasing innovative solutions for freshwater restoration across different ecological and socio-economic contexts.

The project is working at five demonstration sites located in Germany, Denmark, Estonia and the Czech Republic. The diversity of these locations enables FERRO to highlight practical restoration approaches while generating evidence of their ecological effectiveness and wider societal value. By engaging directly with local stakeholders and policymakers at each site, the project aims to ensure that its work achieves lasting and meaningful impact.

The five demonstration sites are the Vrchlice Reservoir in the Czech Republic, the Dröda Reservoir in Germany, Lake Mustijärv in Estonia, Lake Fure in Denmark and Lake Ormstrup in Denmark. Each site has its own unique characteristics and challenges, offering valuable insights into how restoration solutions can be adapted to different environmental and governance contexts.

The new webpage provides detailed information about each of the demonstration sites, the ongoing work being undertaken, and the specific goals that FERRO seeks to achieve in partnership with local actors. This resource is designed to make the progress of the project transparent and accessible to all interested stakeholders and to illustrate how scientific knowledge is translated into practice on the ground.
