The 23rd World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS), which took place between the 7th and 12th June this year, was hosted by the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) and the Soil Science Society of China and organised by the Institute of Soil Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ISSCAS) in Nanjing, China 

WCSS is a globally held event that gathers research scientists, policymakers, regulators, soil practitioners, students, and anyone interested in soil management to communicate and exchange knowledge about the world's soil conditions. The forum is held every four years and provides a valuable platform for scientific pathways for soil recovery.

With this year’s theme ‘Soil and the Shared Future for Humanity,’ the conference focused on the importance of soil for our future by including a variety of oral presentations, sessions, posters and an exciting soil judging contest. Antonio Silva represented FERRO from the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), who led an oral presentation titled “Recycling lake sediment for use in agriculture: insights from laboratory and field experiments”. During their talk, Silva had the opportunity to share FERRO’s work in the catchment area of Lake Ormstrup, where the project has been making significant progress on recycling lake sediments combined with biostimulants for agricultural use. 

The 23rd World Congress of Soil Sciences gave a great opportunity for networking and knowledge exchange in soil science, as well as to present FERRO’s significant work on lake restoration and management.
