FERRO participated in the Joint NSO–GfÖ Conference 2026

Between 13 to 17 September 2026, FERRO attended  the Joint NSO–GfÖ Conference 2026 in Odense, Denmark . Held under the theme “Integrating the Diversity of Ecology”, the conference brought together researchers and practitioners from across the ecological sciences to exchange knowledge and discuss current challenges and approaches in ecology and biodiversity research.

The conference featured 36 thematic sessions, covering a broad range of topics – from evolutionary dynamics and ecosystem theory to applied conservation and restoration of freshwater resources, agroecology and biodiversity monitoring.

FERRO was represented by SDU, with a presentation held by Antonio Silva, titled “Recycling lake sediment for use in agriculture”, presenting findings from his recent research together with co-authors in the paper “Amending soil with dredged nutrient-rich lake sediment and biostimulants to enhance plant growth and phosphorus recycling.” The findings provide promising evidence for approaches that connect freshwater restoration with nutrient recovery and more circular resource use in agriculture.

FERRO’s participation in the conference provided an opportunity to share results from one of its demonstration sites - Lake Ormstrup - with the wider ecological research community and to contribute to ongoing discussions on innovative approaches to freshwater ecosystem restoration.

By connecting research, restoration practice and resource recovery, FERRO continues to explore how the challenges facing freshwater ecosystems can also become opportunities for more sustainable and circular solutions.
